Length: 4 hours Time: Wed., June 1, 2016 |  9:15 AM – 1:15 PM Venue: Krakow Technology Park | Podole 60 | 30-394 Krakow   On the web, everything looks the same. Let’s fix that. Instead of a first or last approach, let’s look at design and content in tandem.   We’re going to take you through a hands-on design and content approach that bites its thumb at boring trends without compromising the effectiveness of your UIs. Learn the business case behind flexible content and design systems that you won’t need to sell to your clients. We’ll partner up and play the roles of writer and designer, break out the pencils, and source, gather, position, and improve your content. Then, together, we’ll demonstrate how design can create stronger microcopy, editorial messaging, and calls to action. By the end of this workshop, you’ll be dying to trade your Open Sans and coffee cup headers for something a little bolder. Prepare your marketing team. They might not be ready for this.   There is a big disconnect between design and content development on the web. The technology and the organizations powered by it have built silos around the roles in our industry… especially around design and writing. We want to break those barriers and improve collaboration on our teams in pursuit of a more expressive and diverse digital culture. Doing so will hopefully extend our relevance well into the age of automation and artificial intelligence (and make our jobs a lot more fun in the process). What better way than to demonstrate how to do this in a safe, hands-on, exploratory way.   This is the general format:   1. Small intro presentation 2. Individual hands-on exercise 3. Another small presentation on content 4. Partner people up (design and writer roles) for another hands-on exercise 5. Another small presentation on collaboration 6. A second pair exercise 7. Review & discussion
Travis Gertz is both a designer and partner at Louder Than Ten. He went to school to design magazines, ended up designing apps, and now does everything he can to bring those things together. He is not a machine.   Rachel Gertz is a content strategist and systems design consultant for freelancers and creative teams through Louder Than Ten. She fine tunes creative processes using empathy, logic, and a dash of irreverence. She strongly likes bourbon.

Change Design

Available: for soap! 2016 participants only
Language: English
Length: 2,5 hours Time: Wed., June 1, 2016 | 1:45PM – 4:15PM Venue: Krakow Technology Park | Podole 60 | 30-394 Krakow This workshop will be conducted according to FLIK’s own method – CTRL+ALT+DEL. It treats the change as a condition for creativity, something that gives the opportunity for quick and dynamic change design, including testing and changes. We work using innovative methods, driving energy of the participants, and fun!   New job, new project, new product, new service, new skill, new knowledge… Change is a natural and – at the same time – a complicated stage in life. We all have different techniques to accept it. CTRL+AL+DEL method gives the possibilities to dynamically plan the change according to few steps: CTRL – look around and see what state you are in ALT – create new opportunities DEL – eradicate the dangers   If you would like to face the change design problematics – come and join us!   What you will learn: – what is CTRL+ALT+DEL – develop your change design skills – develop your analytical skills – learn how to work in a creative team
FLIK Fundacja Laboratorium Innowacji i Kreatywności // Creativity and Innovation Lab Foundation   FLIK is a group of people passionate about creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. The group was formally created in 2012, after Mirka Długosz and Weronika Adrian from Top 500 Innovators decided to put their scientific and creative experience to good use.   Joined by people with years of know-how from different departments – from architecture, through IT, psychology, and linguistics – we now carry workshops and meetings on Design Thinking, creative work techniques, and methods of business for educational organizations, small businesses, corporations and NGOs. We also share our expertise offering consultations and organizing social and interdisciplinary events, such as Design Thinking Week and Polish-American Innovation Bridge. In FLIK we aim at creating an innovative space for anyone who wishes to work and develop their ideas in a happy and helpful environment oriented on “it’s ok to fail” philosophy and prototyping.   TRAINERS   Daria Hemmerling I am an amateur of sour apples and propagator of not a common sense approach to life. I’m passionate about creativity, innovation, and entrepreneurship. As a researcher, university teacher and a founding member of the Fundacja Laboratorium Innowacji i Kreatywności, I get a chance to work with others who embrace the idea that entrepreneurs do much more than imaginable with much less than seems possible. I am an engineer with big smilewho has an intense focus on speech analysis, deep learning, problem solving. Outside of this time I thrive off dreaming and living adventure travel experiences.   Jadwiga Sitnicka I am a mentor for newbies in technical writing and a leader with seven years of technical writing background. Although I graduated in human-computer interactions, I am most interested in relations between humans. This interest combined with my passion for creativity and finding new solutions made me a member of the Innovation and Creativity Lab Foundation, a place where I got the enterprenurial spirit. In my free time I am a lindy-hop dancer and a fan of old diafilm celluloid movies.

(U)X Marks the Spot: Creating Experience Maps

Available: for soap! 2016 participants only
Language: English
Length: 2 hours Time: Wed., June 1, 2016 |   1:45PM – 3:45 PM Venue: Krakow Technology Park| Podole 60 | 30-394 Krakow   If you want to design products or services that work well for your users, you need to understand their experience. How do users go about doing their tasks? What channels do they use? What are they trying to achieve? What are they thinking and feeling? What delights them and what frustrates them? Is your product or service meeting their needs? In this hands-on session you will learn:
    • • how to research customer interactions with your product or service

  • • how to create a customer experience map

  • • how to use the map as a catalyst for improvement opportunities

Anna is a user experience researcher and designer at Motorola Solutions. Her approach is based on the User Centered Design methodology. She loves challenging development assumptions, and when she overhears you saying things like „this is what our users want” be sure that she’ll swoop in and ask „how do you know?” She has worked with internal Motorola Solutions products such as portals, reporting dashboards and user documentation, and she has experience in every stage of the process – from research and ideation, through design and testing, to implementation. When not geeking over UX stuff, Anna enjoys snowboarding, rollerblading, playing music, and baking cookies.
